Association Pays Final Tribute to Its Hero, Joey Vento
Philadelphia, PA (August 24, 2011) -- While remembering his remarkable contribution to the Tea Party movement, members of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association are mourning the loss of Joey Vento, who died, yesterday, of a massive heart attack.
"Joey Vento, recipient of our 2011 Patriot of the Year Award, will never be forgotten--he is simple irreplaceable," said Association President, Teri Adams.
"The April 18 Press Release (below) sums up our Association's view of a genuine Tea Party hero and legend."
Association Names Joey Vento 2011 Patriot of the Year; Says Vento Exemplifies the Entrepreneurial and Civic Spirit the Movement Espouses
Philadelphia, PA (April 18, 2011) -- The President of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association has announced that businessman Joey Vento has been unanimously chosen by its Board of Directors to receive the "2011 Patriot of the Year Award" for his Entrepreneurial and Civic contributions at the local, regional, and national levels.
During a Tea Party held April 15 at Geno's Steaks (a restaurant Mr. Vento established in 1966 at the corner of 9th and Passyunk) and carried live on WPHT's Dom Giordano Show, Association President Teri Adams explained why Mr. Vento was chosen for the award.
"Joey Vento has been a friend to Philadelphia, the region, and the nation," said Ms. Adams. "As a South Philadelphia businessman and employer, Mr. Vento has benefited the local economy. As a philanthropist, he has supported justice for fallen police officer Daniel Faulkner, an array of regional law enforcement causes, and various other charities.
"As a concerned American, Mr. Vento has been an outspoken proponent of legal immigration--backing Arizona in its struggle to enforce the laws on its books against the intervention of the Federal government, " Ms. Adams said. "He has defended the First Amendment, advocated for superior health care, and promoted the Tea Party Movement."
Several Years ago, the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission tried to penalize Mr. Vento for posting a sign on the wall of his establishment, which read, "When Ordering, Please Speak English." Mr. Vento fought the Commission and eventually prevailed.
More recently, Mr. Vento, who was diagnosed with cancer and successfully treated, has taken to the airwaves--buying radio spots comparing the advantages of the private American healthcare system to the deficiencies of socialized medicine.
"Joey Vento spoke at our very first Tea Party two years ago," said Ms. Adams. "The nearly two thousand participants loved his heartfelt sincerity, his honesty, and his common sense. He is the Tea Party Movement."
The "2011 Patriot of the Year Award" will be officially presented to Mr. Vento at the Association's
Energy Independence Day Tea Party to be held July 4 from 1-3 PM on Independence Mall, 5th and Market Streets.

Tea Party Group Lauds Toomey Appointment to Super Committee
Philadelphia (August 11, 2011) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association no sooner lodged a campaign to get Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) appointed to serve on the Super Committee then their wish became a reality (see letter to Senator Mitch McConnell below).
"While we have concerns about the appropriateness of even having a Congressional Super Committee, we are certainly relieved that Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) named Senator Toomey to fill one of three Senate Republican spots," said Association President Teri Adams.
"Senator Toomey is a man of principle who became a clear leader in the attempt to prevent the downgrading of America's credit rating," she said.
"The Senator authored a proposal that would have balanced the federal budget in nine years. It was, of course, rejected by the Senate along a mostly party line vote.
"Mr. Toomey also co-sponsored the Association backed Cut, Cap and Balance Act. He has demonstrated his expertise and commitment to solving our national budget crisis and has earned the appointment."

Tea Party Marks 2nd Anniversary of ObamaCare with Press Conference on Independence Mall
Philadelphia (March 23, 2012) -- To mark the 2nd Anniversary of the passage of ObamaCare (March 23, 2010), the Independence Hall Tea Party Association held a Tri-State Repeal ObamaCare Press Conference, today, to remind the President, Congress, state legislators, the media, and the public-at-large that nearly two out of every three Americans now oppose the enactment of this law.
The Association was joined by Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick; a spokesman for Senator Pat Toomey; several Congressional Candidates; small business folks; local Tea Party activists; and a former White House speech writer and health care executive to discuss the overwhelming negative consequences of ObamaCare.
"As time passes, the number of ObamaCare opponents keeps growing," said Association President, Teri Adams. "Perhaps, it's due to the fact that the Congressional Budget Office now puts the cost of ObamaCare at nearly two trillion dollars--more than double its original estimate of less than a trillion dollars.
"The Association has steadfastly opposed ObamaCare over the past three years, sending buses to DC and Harrisburg to voice objection to it--and rallying in support of legislation such as PA State Representative Matt Baker's HB 42 allowing Pennsylvania to opt out of ObamaCare and the Repeal ObamaCare bill passed, last year, by the US House of Representatives.
"We object to ObamaCare on so many levels, whether it be the individual mandate, the inevitable rationing of health care, the loss of personal choice in deciding health plans and doctors, or the skyrocketing costs," said Ms. Adams. "We will not rest until the legislation is repealed--even if that requires electing a new US President and US Senate."
Ms. Adams was joined at the conference by Mary Ellen Jones, business owner and spokeswoman for the Delaware County Patriots; James Fitzpatrick, office of Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA); former Monmouth County Freeholder and Mayor of Highlands, NJ, the Honorable Anna Little; US Senate candidate Kevin Wade (R-DE); Congressional candidates Robert Mansfield (R-PA) and John Featherman (R-PA); former White House speech writer, Heritage Foundation policy analyst, and health care executive, Michael Johns; and Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8).
